Entry to the club is by assessment trial.  Swimmers are usually assessed by two coaches, following which a coach will discuss the trial with the parent and swimmer.  If the trial is successful, and there is space available in the appropriate squad, then the swimmer will be asked if they would like to join the club.

Times of sessions will be given then they will be directed to a committee member for all other information.
There are no specific criteria to move through each squad.  The club has limited access to pool time and pool space so we would not be able to guarantee the space if a set criteria was set.  We do though, promise to design a programme which will develop each swimmer’s skills and ability.  Coaches regularly discuss needs and the development of each swimmer in order to place them in the correct squad and offer them what they need for their development.

Squads

Our first two development squads essentially focus on skills.  The squads swim short distances to encourage emphasis on skill.  The first squad do not compete in any swim gala’s other than the club championships.  Some of the swimmers in the second squad will be invited to swim in the Forth Valley meets.

The next three lanes of the development squads maintain the focus on skills and further development of strokes though they swim in lengths to encourage holding skills over longer distances.  These squads prepare the swimmers for competition.  The swimmers will have the opportunity to swim in Club Championships, Forth Valley meets, Central Region Championships and possibly Alloa Graded Meets if and when the coaches think appropriate.

What is currently known as ‘Steven’s Squad’ is really our first competitive squad.  As a progression from the development squads, they will continue to work to a structured development plan.  These swimmers will be entered into graded meets and mini or junior meets further a field in addition to the Club Championships, Central Region and Alloa graded meet.  Some may still be invited to swim at the Forth Valley team events.

Monica’s Squad works to a programme worked around the competition calendar.  As well as the regional and club competitions, this squad will be entered into other graded meets, junior open meets and district championships.  Some of the swimmers will qualify to swim at Scottish National Age Group Championships.  Some may even compete in the British Age Group Championships.

The National Squad also work to a plan designed around the competition calendar targeting larger competitions.  They take part in District and National Championships as well as Open meets around Scotland and in England.  Some swimmers compete in the British Age Group and Youth Championships and British Trials.

Commitment/Expectations

Swimmers are expected to attend all sessions offered.  Each squads training programme is planned throughout all sessions offered to that squad so by attending a minimum of sessions or regularly missing one of the sessions, a swimmer will find it difficult to keep up with others in the squad who will be working to a fully rounded programme.
